Trailer analysis

Genre: Horror

USP: Unique and interesting setting for a horror film with an original plot, household names like Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey will attract fans

Trailer starts off with happy sounding music with a montage of people kissing, smiling and being happy, with overview shots of nice neighbourhoods, whilst a written narration is setting the foundation with positive facts about America being reborn, having a low crime and unemployment rate etc. until the narration explains that there's one day per year which legalizes crime. This is combined with footage of riots, killings, chaos etc. The music , whilst still the same, has a harder hitting tone to it then before when it played during the peaceful beginning. The trailer then slowly starts building up the plot with the editing speeding up slowly until it hits a climax with the editing being very fast paced and intense

hard hitting music. The font throughout the trailer

is white with a black background. There's a glow on the font

which could symbolize a full moon as the purge takes

place during the night.

Genre: Scifi

USP: Simply being a Star Wars film is a unique selling point as the franchise has an extensive and almost religious like following. This will attract everyone that likes Star Wars because it has the original cast, familiar space ships etc. and will create a feel of nostalgia.

The editing is typical for a trailer with slow paced editing picking up pace as the trailer goes on. The trailer also has music from the original star wars films in it which also creates a sense of nostalgia for a lot of fans.

Genre: Action/ Comedy

USP: I think that that the usp for this film is that Seth Rogan wrote it and also stars in it alongside James Franco which are both much loved comedy actors.

The editing is a mixture of montage and continuity editing. Quick swoosh transitions are also used from scene to scene when the editing is fast paced.

The comedic dialogue played in the trailer tries to sell the film to the audience

We were tasked with creating a trailer and since I wasn't present at college during that week I thought that I'll incorporate what I was working on in my spare time. I was getting shots for a music video and a short film I'm working on so I thought that I could easily make a trailer for the music video I'm making. It's a rap song with an old school feeling to it. The artist behind the song is a passionate skater and wants skating to be in the video so I thought that we should go to Southbank with a lot of people. Sadly, the artist and a lot of the people that were supposed to show up at Southbank didn't turn up so I was left with no other choice but to film strangers that were skating there which wasn't really to much of a problem but it still limited me and my potential creative input because I find it harder directing strangers that aren't part of the project and aren't really interested in taking part of it than actual people that are on board. Once I collected the footage and imported on my computer, I started editing it on sony vegas. I would also like to add effects from After Effects but I don't have the time to do so as After Effects requires a lot of time and effort. I will however add a lot of effects to the final music video which could take me up to 200+ hours to make because the whole music video will be 12 minutes long and very special effects intensive.

I also created a mood board instead of a story board because filming a video like this tends to be messy and chaotic (especially when people don't show up) and in my experience, I'm never able to stick to the plan.

I didn't model this trailer after a film trailer. I watched a few music video teaser trailers and they all follow a similar convention. There's music playing with information at the end and are between 10-40 seconds long. The project I'm working on doesn't have a release date as it's in it's very early stage of development so I just added coming soon instead of a release date.

I also wanted to work on my after effects skills so Emma sat down with me and showed me how to do basic motion tracking with text. I was thinking that I will apply the method she showed me for lens flares. I also made a new cover art poster for my youtube channel in photoshop.
