I chose to look at the famous scene in which people from the block make sounds that interact with each other. The scene starts of with the painter painting the ceiling and is shortly followed with the couple having intercourse causing the springs under the mattress to squeak. The camera then follows down a heater and the sound becomes echoed as it would be if you'd find yourself in a hollow device such as a heater. This is pulled off very smoothly and serves as a great transition to the next room in which a women is seen playing her piano. The squeaking is still present in this and sets a rhythm to the scene. The scene then switches to the next room in which a woman is seen dusting off a carpet. The squeaking can still be heard and still provides a rhythm whilst she's whacking the carpet. The violin is mildly heard in the background. The next room is of a man pumping a wheel, the squeaking can't be heard in this. There are other sounds added to the scene whilst the scene picks up pace. The editing and the sounds keep getting faster as the characters are starting to get irritated and start trying to block out the sound by doing what they're doing quicker and louder. The rapidly edited shots build tension, indicate urgency, and create a rushed atmosphere. The characters ultimately fall, break their piano etc. as the person having intercourse on the bed climaxes. This symbolizes a kind of victory.
